Desertion: the book and the movie

scorching heat and desperate passions
by Mike Esser

"I wanted to create a masterpiece that would become a landmark in gay erotic film making, something a million miles away from the formularised and tacky hard-core porn being made in the USA."

A noble ideal, yet hardly captured in this book of the video. There is nothing tacky nor for that matter hard-core about this landmark. Let's be honest... there's actually no porn in either the book or the video. (You might be better getting a copy of Gay Man's Guide to Safer Sex - by the same publisher - for more explicit images.)

For reasons even the producer cannot explain Desertion is known as "Sirocco" in the USA.

As the publishers are quick to point out, the book and video were made before July 3, 1995 and thus the works do not conflict with 18 U.S.C Section 2257.

Which leads one to believe that the contents are going to be racy. Erotic. Lewd. Sexual.

Here's the story... seven men are trapped in "a desert of their own passions" with another man wandering about the place being a free spirit. With the exception of the artist who's all alone in his fantasy, each man gets to explore another's body without getting an erection or cumming. Sex without the mess.

Brilliant colours. Gorgeous men. Specious fantasies. "Erotically charged and breathtakingly sensual", Desertion is beautiful to look at but ultimately a frustrating waste of time.

Opinion:

1/6 Ideal for the faint hearted.
