400 years, a history of type

This mural, which was displayed at the inaugural Seybold Seminars in Sydney 1997, consisted of 13 metre-high panels displayed as a single 9 metre poster.

The purpose of the mural was to depict the history of typeface design. The piece explored the contributions made to printing by the Koreans, Chinese and Japanese and later developments from the time of Gutenberg (the famed originator of printing) to the release of Times Millennium.

Created for Agfa, Monotype, Softbank Forums and Techflow, the mural was a fundamental part of the Typeface Design Awards conducted in Sydney in 1997. The original mural is on display at the offices of Techflow in Sydney. One additional copy was also created specifically for use by Agfa and Monotype to display at various international digital typography shows in Europe and America.

The mural was created using Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, QuarkXPress and took about 3 weeks from concept to fulfillment.
