Flowers (Fleurons)
Type ornaments used to embellish page borders, etc. Originally derived from arabesque decorations used by bookbinders. Popularized in type form by Robert Granjon (mid sixteenth century) and widely used in the following century. Revived in the twentieth century. They consist of a number of units which may be combined into an infinite number of patterns for use as borders, chapter headings and other purposes.
